Given that it now knows how to do both, is there any point in not doing
so?  As in, always?  I still end up having to build the thing twice
every time, simply because this configure doesn't behave like every
other one in FLOSSland, and I always forget the -s.  (Principle of Least
Astonishment and all. ;-) )

No worries on Linux/IA32 (not that that's surprising, I imagine).
