Ok, I misunderstood, well, I didn't even realize there was a library. Only the @ZLIB_VER@ fix is needed (at least this is all that I needed when I tested 1.2.5.2 on Gentoo, and I have rebuilt most things I use with that version by now.)

the Gentoo ebuilds have zlib provide a USE flag "minizip". this makes the zlib ebuild install libminizip.so. it does not install the utilities.
i don't know why you think we install or require the actual demo programs in anyway ...
