Sloppy reading on my part.  Of course, you read it correctly and drew
the correct conclusion: there isn't a standard workflow.

The setup described in that chapter (where development only occurs
against an unstable branch and the "master" branch advances by merging
the development branch as a whole from time to time) is actually
pretty unusual, though some features of it are reminiscent of more
popular setups.  But based on what you said, it makes a lot of sense
here (since it could cut down on bug reports from casual users testing
development versions and expecting them to work as well as releases).
