Hi, Mark,

I looked at it briefly, and I have a few build fixes and suggestions.

I think you can delete old/visualc6/. There are alternatives now, such
as the CMakefile (which generates, among other things, VC++ projects),
as well as the already-existing (and updated) VC++ projects in
contrib/.

For the rest, I am sending you a patch.
