Indeed, this is probably a good thing to do for the next release. But
I don't think it's worth delaying the release of 1.2.4 for this reason
alone.

Oh, and I forgot yet another thing:
Delete win32/Makefile.gcc.old. (Was there a particular reason to leave it in?)
