Thank you for your valuable input, but I have no plans to implement a vcs for zlib anytime soon, so we don't need to discuss their merits here.  The vcs for zlib is: I make changes, people send me stuff and I make other changes, and I issue a new release.  Old school, I know, but zlib doesn't need a huge amount of work, doesn't get updated very often, and doesn't have an army of contributors.  This seems adequate.

By the way, the vcs I have considered is neither svn nor git, but I won't say which one so as to not fan the flames of war.
