[Zlib-devel] Parallel zlib

Hi Mark,

This never got off the ground. We discussed potential parallel implementation of zlib library for the archival tool called dar at http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=511615&aid=2908554&group_id=65612

The idea was to start the discussion on the list but Denis never acknowledged his subscription on this list.

Can we at least start to discuss what a parallel API may look like?

We all know the advantages of parallelism on modern multi-core CPUs. pigz is a proof of that but external programs need zlib API to consume. So, the idea of this discussion is to start work on an API definition which can be easily consumed by the clients like dar, preferably with minimum change.
