Hello, I just find out the problem with the duplication of code in zlib abd rsync is ventilated in bugzilla: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6916 and there are comments from rsync part so perhaps it could be valuable to put there the ideas/wants of zlib upstream too.
