Apropos Gentoo: 

#1: what does lfs-decls patch actually do ?

#2: why the dirty sed hack on configure instead of a clean patch ?

#3: what about taking fixed tree from git instead of manually patching ?

#4: shouldnt the blocking rdepend sit in the broken libxml2 version ?

#5: wouldnt it be better to properly fix configure for mingw32 builds
    instead of hacking in up the manual way ?

#6: why not fixing makefile to properly install the documentation ?
