Still someone could check.  zlib.lib is a distributed file that can be checked to see if there is something inherently wrong there, or if it is in fact a problem with the platform, etc.   The reason I would consider checking zlib.lib first is that the user noted the they could link gzwrite, but not gzopen, gzclose, or gzread.
