The *implementation* is nonstandard, but the *interface* should
be oriented towards existing standards.

For instance, the fact that the script is called "configure" and
not "our_fancy_zlib_system_check.sh" is an orientation towards
the naming standard established by autoconf.

On the other hand, many options are nonstandard, such as "--static"
whose original standard name is "--enable-static". I'm not sure
whether it would be a good idea to change those, but I recommend
to look at existing standard naming schemes at least when adding
_new_ options.
