I just noticed that starting with 1.2.4.1 ar and ranlib are prefixed with
${CHOST} or ${CROSS_PREFIX}. CHOST is set to x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu or
i686-pc-linux-gnu on my system. While I have $CHOT-gcc, $CHOST-g++ etc.
there is no prefixed ar or ranlib. Afaik others fall back to the
non-prefixed version if the prefixed one does not exist.
