ACK. I personally dislike autoconf for many reasons, but several
concepts, ie. the naming schemes and parameter syntax aren't 
such bad. IMHO it's an good idea to agree on certain kind of
semi-standards in the OSS world, so it makes a lot of things
easier for the people.

Yes, zlib rewrites some #define's, etc.
I'm going to change this in the way that only #define's are in 
the in this file, so we'll probably won't need the template anylonger.
