Oh, and there is the text in the main page, which accompanies the link
to www.zlib.net/contrib/index.html, and which needs to be updated as
well:

"unofficial (contributed) patches and binaries (not tested by zlib
   team)
includes patches and ports for Cygwin, Delphi 5, Palm OS, Win64,
and WinCE; performance patches (match.asm for MASM 6.1, malloc
optimization); and binaries for Win16, Win32, and WinCE"

... but then I noticed that both the Palm Pilot and the WindowsCE ports
have links in the main zlib page. They are also upgraded, and available
in the pages pointed to by these links. So they don't need to be hosted.
The only one that remains, is the Win16 port, which is at version 1.0.4.
The lack of interest in the Win16 port is quite obvious.

So: we don't really need this www.zlib.net/contrib/index.html at all!
Whatever is sent to us, is included in the zlib distro, anyway.

It's probably better to remove the information about the version number
they refer to, because they keep on being updated. The web surfer can
follow the links and see the current version number once that s/he
arrives. There is still a problem if the zlib version is hard-coded into
the web links (such as the first item in the list below), but at least
the job of updating the long list will be easier if the version info is
removed.
